Ba'Aka Pygmies forest fire sends smoke into the canopy of Gilbertiodendron forest. (Gilbertiodendron deweurei) (DeWild). Also known to the Ba'Aka as 'Bemba'. A large variety of forest animals eat its seeds including elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees, various species of monkey, bush pig,buffalo, bongo, yellowbacked duiker, red duiker, blue duiker, water chevrotain, and giant forest hog. The seeds are eaten by the Ba'Aka Pygmies, first boiled, then the seed coat removed and then consumed. The seeds can be smoked then pulverized into a powder, mixed with boiling water to make a dough.
